Modern pallet racking is designed to create maximum storage space using the minimum amount of steel.
Whilst manufacturers design racking systems with a certain degree of strength and durability in mind, deterioration is still inevitable – and it will occur over time. Identifying and rectifying issues early on, however, can save you the down-time caused by systems failure, the expense of costly major repairs or replacement and ensure the safety of your workforce.
The HSE recognise the importance of regular inspections of storage equipment and emphasise that these inspections should be carried out by a competent person. Their recommendations for warehouse racking inspections can be found in their Warehousing and Storage: A Guide to Health and Safety.
Pallet racking in environments other than warehousing and storage are classed as ‘work equipment’ and subject to inspection under the PUWER regulations.
Our inspectors
How can you be sure that a person is competent to carry out your inspection?
Inspectors of racking should be completely independent of the manufacturer and trained specifically for the job. With Racking Inspection Experts, you can be confident that we fulfil both criteria. All our inspectors have achieved the SEMA approved rack inspector qualification, SARI, your guarantee of competence and independence.
All our racking inspectors are also enhanced CRB check approved, allowing them to conduct racking inspections at high profile and security conscious locations.
The inspector will have an in depth knowledge of the following:
- Current legislation and legal requirements
- Industry compliance standards
- Codes of practice
- Types of storage systems
- Identification and assessment of risks
- Damage assessment and identification
- Identification of storage system manufacturer and specifications
- Structural issues and requirements
- Loading and manufacturers calculations
- Signage and load notice
